WE BELIEVE IN KNOWLEDGE PRODUCED THROUGH DISCUSSION, ON THE BASIS OF PERSUASION
ASMA is an international design center working in the fields of architecture, landscape and urbanism.
Where there is no change, it would not be wrong to think that time would stop and that life itself would come to an end. Yet the necessities imposed by that change do not call for the reckless destruction of nature and life for the sake of pleasure, but only for as much transformation as life requires. It is precisely at this point that the question of how the decision mechanism of change should be constructed arises, and we prefer to seek the answer to that question through our lines.
We took as a basis the footprints of the society when drawing them. In this sense, we neither followed them our eyes shut nor drew a completely separate path for ourselves. Because we know well that world is not shaped with individual thoughts of a single person, no matter how much we force. No matter which branch of science we deal with, no matter at which layer of society we reside, power of some thought would not represent change individually. From an opposite point of view, pluralist democracy is also inadequate, and even mistaken in finding the truth most of the time. Therefore, the thought we take as our basis is the common wisdom of the whole society within the place and period in which it lives, formed in an environment of discussion built upon persuasion. Claiming that our production is dedicated to all humanity, we value the contribution of every single individual and, from the essence of these thoughts, offer solutions diverse enough to create an open source against the problems we encounter.
Founded in February 2013 by Ali Sinan, ASMA focuses on developing architectural, urban design and cultural heritage conservation strategies on an experimental ground where theory and practice are intertwined. Each member of the team aims to produce a unique and pluralistic design approach by transferring the experiences gained through both academic and practical work, especially in environments where different disciplines come together.
