Zonguldak is a city where Black Sea interpenetrates the city center, stuck between the sea and the mountain and revealed its own dynamics within the tightness. It existed with coal in the past, but today it is ready to revive by revealing the legacy left by coal…
It would not be wrong to accept the port as the starting point of this transformation since the coal and the sea meets there. Zonguldak Port has been used for the transportation of coal for many years, however some changes affected the port over time, therefore it became a wreckage. This port, which plays an important role in the historical process, cannot be used easily by the public and this is the main indicator of the time of transformation.

In this sense, the main role of the Project is to reunite the coast with the people of Zonguldak. The main aim is to provide the pedestrian continuity and access to the shore with new arrangements on the coastal band starting from governer’s building.
Between the governor’s building and the tunnel, piers are used to create walking areas in the intersection of the sea and the land, and pedestrian roads along the coast from the land to the sea have been proposed. Within this continuity, green areas where people can be in contact with the water were created and commercial places were proposed in order to provide the active use of these areas for 24 hours.
Undoubtdely that, the areas where the small fishing boats, known as ‘çekek’ in public, approached and maintained are today lost their functions. These areas also block the people from being in contact with the water because of their passive locations. This Project promises a transformation where these passive places were revised to create comfortable areas for the public. In addition to the arrangements of the mentioned boat yards for temporary use, social and commercial functions were brought together along the shore to create a vibrant and lively coastal band.
